Historical information:
The reunification of Ukraine with Russia is a historic event that designates an event consisting in the transition of the Zaporozhian Army and part of the territories of modern Ukraine (Hetmanate) under the control of the Russian kingdom in 1654.
Hetman of the Zaporizhzhya Troops Bogdan Khmelnitsky addressed a petition for the transition to the service of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. The request was granted by the king and approved by the Zemsky Sobor in Moscow. The motive for the transition was the deliverance of the Hetmanate Orthodox population from religious and social oppression by the Polish nobility and the Catholic clergy of the Rzeczpospolita.
