Used, Refurbished, Fully Tested and Working. Hard drive comes with Windows 10 Home 64-Bit preinstalled and updated. Unlike our other hard drives, no drivers have been installed for a specific model. Windows will install most drivers on the first boot. You can then install additional drivers by running Windows update. If some drivers are still missing you can update them from the laptop manufacturer's support website. We have added links to most of them to the Favorites folder in the web browser. Please note that we are not selling any software and that Windows 10 Home has been preinstalled for your convenience. It has not been activated. The buyer must have a Microsoft digital license or product key for Windows 10 Home. If Windows is not activated within 1 month, some features will no longer work. Picture is representative only - hard drive make and model will vary but will match the specifications stated in the listing. Hard drive brands include Hitachi, Seagate, Toshiba and Western Digital.

These hard drives are for people who purchased a laptop with no hard drive or whose hard drives have crashed and do not have the Windows media to reinstall the operating system, but do have a license or key for the exact version of Windows installed. A license or key for any other version of Windows 10 will not validate Windows 10 Home.
If you don't own Windows 10 Home, but want to upgrade to it, you can purchase a key from Microsoft.
Virtual/Digital Windows 10 Licenses
A digital license is a virtual product key. If you previously upgraded from an older version of Windows to Windows 10, you have what is known as a digital or virtual license. That means the Microsoft servers already know you have a Windows 10 license for that laptop, which is linked to serial numbers of several pieces of hardware they identified in your laptop and it will be automatically validated by Microsoft without you putting in an actual product key. While you do not need a physical product key in this case, you do need to know if you own Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Home as the installed version on the hard drive must match the version you own.
Boot Mode
These drives are for older laptops that use 2.5" SATA drives and are set to boot with Legacy support enabled in the BIOS. Before ordering this drive, enter your laptop's BIOS setup and make sure your BIOS boot mode is set to Legacy, and that you can disable Secure Boot, otherwise you will get a  "No bootable devices" message when you install the new drive. If there is no mention of UEFI and no choice of boot mode, then it is Legacy.
If you want your new drive to boot in UEFI mode, and have that option in your BIOS, then let us know when you purchase that you want this hard drive to boot in UEFI mode.
How you enter the BIOS varies between manufacturer and laptop model. Do not buy this drive if you don't know how, or can't, enter the BIOS setup on your laptop. On most laptops it involves hitting a Function Key as soon as you turn on the laptop - on most Dell laptops it is F2, on most Lenovo ThinkPads it is F1, and on most HP laptops it is F10. Every BIOS is different, but you will most likely find the Boot Mode under the Boot or Startup section, and the Secure Boot option under either the Boot or Security sections.

No. A
Windows license or key  is version specific as in Home or Pro, but will validate either 32-Bit or 64-Bit version of that same OS. Even if you had 32-Bit installed before you can switch to the 64-Bit version and validate it with the same license or key.
What if I do not have a license or key or want a version of Windows that is different from the one on my COA?
If you don't have a product key, or you want to upgrade to Windows 10, then you can purchase a Windows 10 license from Microsoft.
