A struggle between to the two super powers the United States and the USSR. The Warsaw Pact (controlled by the USSR) came to end and most nations became independent and formed some form of capitalist and/or socialist type government.
Some may say that a number of these countries are even freer today then the United States.
Hopefully, Russia the heart of the USSR will stay this way, but who knows while the powers to be appear to be dominated and control by a select few.
