This pin/brooch was created for the 2005 First Lady's Luncheon ("FLL"). Started by the Congressional Club in 1912, the annual event is an opportunity to lunch with the current First Lady and associates of members of Congress and/or Cabinet members each spring in Washington, DC.
Mignon Faget was commissioned by The Congressional Club to create the 2005 commemorative design for The First Lady's Luncheon. The Louisiana Iris Brooch reflects Faget's studies in the native plants of Louisiana and expresses the symbol of Louisiana, the fleur de lis. Mignon Faget has handcrafted this brooch in hew New Orleans workshop. Each design is a unique object of adornment.
Mignon Faget is a fifth-generation New Orleanian. She earned a degree in Fine Arts from H. Sophie Newcomb College. Her interest in fashion as art evolved into a career in jewelry design. Faget's designs are inspired by nature and the architecture found in southern Louisiana. Thirty-five years ago, she started Mignon Faget, Ltd., an arts enterprise. Her creations are collected throughout the United States and beyond.
