    Description

    IMPERIAL RUSSIAN  BADGE
    "
    NIZHNY NOVGOROD DRAGOON REGIMENT
    "
The "Nizhny Novgorod Dragoons Regiment" badge is a reward that was established to encourage servicemen of the 17th Nizhny Novgorod regiment, which bore the name of His Majesty. The unit was founded on September 8, 1701, while the day of the regiment was celebrated on November 27. The regiment was located in Karagach from May 1846, whereas from 1903 to 1914 he was in Tiflis.
The sign "Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon Regiment" was established on December 26, 1908. It was made in the form of a matt black Caucasus cross, which has a golden bezel and swords of a similar color. In the central part of the sign on the gold rim, painted in crimson color, there were four letters: "NEVP." The abbreviation said that the Nizhny Novgorod regiment bore the name of His Majesty. On the horizontal rays of the cross there were memorable dates of the founding and the 200th anniversary (1701 and 1901). On the vertical beams were the monograms of Peter the Great and Nicholas II. The first was located on top, and the second - from below.
The date of formation of the regiment is August 8, 1701. The founder is the governor Apraksin, who gathered ten mouths together. A year later, the regiment took part in the Northern War, where the first battle took place near the Duderhof manor at the siege of Narva. In 1709, the unit fought with the Swedes in Lithuania and Ukraine. The unit appeared during the period of reforms, when Peter the Great transformed the Novgorod General's Regiment, bringing together the Kopor Cossacks and nobles from the Obonezhskaya and Bezhitskaya Pyatiny. In September 1901, when the regiment was celebrating its 200th birthday, Nicholas II presented him the St. George standard with the inscription: "1701-1901", as well as the jubilee Alexandrovsky ribbon. In 1906 Prince Alexei Nikolayevich was here for the service. For the years of existence here also served Alexander the Second, Alexander the Third and Grand Prince Mikhail Nikolaevich.
