Description
A quality Imperial Russian Cigarette Case with pre Revolution National marks on both sectionsindicating 84 Zolotniks of fineness, (sterling) as well as an assayers mark. These marks are the Imperial Russian assayers marks used between 1896 and 1907.
Silver and other fine objects were confiscated by the Peasants and Workers Teams under the Rabkrin. These objects then had the original inscriptions removed and were re used as awards for meritorious service by the Soviet. In this case the new inscription reads "104th Army K. I. Nikiforov, Division Leader, For Your Achievement, creativity, hard work, initiative and organizational work of his Division. April 30, 1931. The face of the case has had the 104th Army cypher added as well.
A fascinating piece of history.
The interior of the case originally had gold gilt finish but use has worn most away, with only traces remaining. The thumb and locking button are silver. The hinge and lock are tight and in good order. The case shows slight abrasion and small dents from use and age.
Size is 2 7/8" x 3 3/4"
