Description
Soviet Naval Flag of a Fleet Commander (“Three-Star Admiral” Flag), in wool bunting, dated 1985.This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL FLAG made in the Soviet Union in 1985 with the exclusive purpose to use on a Soviet naval vessel – this flag is not a post-Soviet issue, souvenir or replica!
Made in bunting, the tough coarse wool material traditionally used in Russia and Soviet Union for maritime flags. The flag is in VERY LARGE SIZE, measures approximately 6.5 feet x 4 feet. Features red field with three white stars, and a regular naval ensign in the upper left corner. The canvas hoist sleeve has stamped name of the manufacturer (Galantereynaya Factory), GOST-81 manufacturing code, a 1985 date of manufacture, and a round quality control stamp.
The flag is in very good condition. Its colors are strong. There are a few small moth bites and nips to the red field between the white stars closer to the far side, but none of them are very detractive or even very noticeable – given the overall huge size of the flag. There is no active moth problem. The flag is very clean overall. There are a couple of faint stains to the red field close to the hoist, but they are also not too noticeable.
This uncommon Soviet "three-star admiral" flag is from the turbulent period of changes in the Soviet leadership, made just before Gorbachev’s reign, collapse of the Soviet empire, and decline of the once mighty Soviet Navy. This flag can be a great conversation piece. Its size will create a very impressive wall display, a great backdrop for a collection of Soviet militaria or international naval memorabilia.
