Rare original Communist Party-Membership Card. This is the official pocket size document belonged to a real member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. This document was much more important than a passport. Losing it was a very serious offence.
Similar larger size Communist Party Membership Registration Cards were kept in the Party offices. They are more common as not so many of them were destroyed after the collapse of the USSR.
Most of the Communist Party Membership Cards were destroyed by their holders in the early 1990's.
On the front cover, the very top line translates to “Workers of the world, unite!” (This was the official motto of the USSR). A more literal translation is “proletariansof all countries, unite!” The lines below translate to “Communist Party of the Soviet Union”. The abbreviation on the bottom is the “Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union” The same texts are on the second page in both Russian . Text under Lenin’s image is “The party is a mind, honour and conscience of our epoch”

Payment of party dues began December 1973.
The last year of payment of membership fees is 1991.
This year the Soviet Union ceased to exist.
