    Description

    SILVER BADGE
The Dnieper hydroelectric power station is a large hydroelectric power station in the south of Ukraine, the fifth stage of a cascade of hydroelectric power plants, provides electricity to the Donetsk-Kryvyi Rih industrial region. The station is located in the city of Zaporozhye and is the oldest among the cascade of power plants on the Dnieper River. On the basis of Dneproges, a metallurgical, chemical and machine-building industrial complex was created in Zaporozhye. With the construction of the dam, which raised the water level in the Dnieper by 50 m, through navigation was opened.
1st stage was built in 1927-1932. During the Great Patriotic War in August 1941, during the retreat of Soviet troops, the 157th NKVD regiment was mined and destroyed (the operation was led by Colonel Boris Epov). The wave washed away the German crossings and their advancing units. However, according to a number of authors, thousands of local civilians and retreating units of the Red Army were also among the victims. Restored in 1944 - 50s, its current capacity is 648 MW (originally - 560 MW).
